Global Health Corps End of Year Conference

“Plastic” (2016)

To close the Global Health Corps (GHC) fellowship year, there is an annual conference for fellows to share their work and learn more about global health in the various countries GHC works. Within this conference, fellows were asked to write an “elevator pitch”, less than 10 minutes, to describe how they got to where they are and their “why.” Several stories were selected to be recorded by GHC for future internal sharing; my story was one of these, so luckily, I was able to have a version of my performance recorded!

This was one of the first times I performed an oral storytelling piece in a public or professional setting. I see this piece as a starting point that kick-started my interest. I feel my storytelling skills have grown since 2016, but I am still proud of the version of me who told this story.

*Note: I state in this that I studied global health, neuroscience, and genetics. This was a quick way of putting it for the piece, but to clarify: I studied psychology with a focus on biological bases of behavior (neuroscience), global health with a focus on global mental health, and received a genetics minor (because genetics is cool!)
